NEW: Intro to JSFL

Here I introduce JSFL, the scripting language for the Flash authoring environment. I’ve created a traceBitmap script that converts a sequence of bitmap frames into vector graphics.

You can download the traceBitmap.jsfl script here.

Great one Brent. Hope you don’t mind but I’ve added this to the library @ http://thesourcecode.org/?p=5. I also whipped up an extension for ya. The link for that is available on that page too…:)

Thanks hasan! I’m hoping to explain the whole extension making process as well. Another cool feature is the control panel feature, custom tools, I plan to get to those as well.

Guys im an idiot! im tryign to learn this JSFL stuff. I have tried to write my own TraceBitmap script then i found yours but every time i try to run it i get

    “tracebitmap requires a selection”.

    aghhhhhhhh!

i have selected all the clips on the screen, i have selected all frames, there isnt much more i can see to select!

Am i mising somethign obvious here. im sure i am selecting objects but the script disagrees ;(

    Cheers a

    alan,

The only thing I can think of is you might be selecting movieclips instead of bitmap images (jpg, gif). traceBitmap only works on bitmap images, not movieclips or other Flash converted symbols (buttons, mc, graphic).

Hopefully you can get it to work for what you need!
